Colin McRae Rally is a racing video game series developed and published by Codemasters for the PC, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Game Boy Advance, Xbox, and N-Gage. The franchise has been a critical and commercial success and is generally acknowledged as the pioneer of realistic rally sports racing games. However, the car handling in the most recent games is best described as arcade. The series is named for the international rally driver Colin McRae, who provided technical advice during development. Feral Interactive is developing a Mac version of Colin McRae 2005.
This fourth incarnation of the Colin McRae Rally series, unlike in the previous three games, had no official WRC team license. All of the cars' liveries are either fictitious or taken from championships other than the WRC. The cars included are the 2003-spec Citroën Xsara WRC, Subaru Impreza WRC, Peugeot 206 WRC, Mitsubishi Lancer, and the 2001-spec Ford Focus WRC. Two-wheel drive (2wd) cars included are Citroën Saxo, Ford RallyeSport Puma, Fiat Punto, VW Golf GTi and MG ZR. Nicky Grist is replaced by Derek Ringer, although you can opt for Grist for all cars except the Xsara. The countries are the same as in McRae 3 with some old stages from McRae 2.0 and new stages. There are six championships to complete, including expert mode, 2wd normal/advanced, 4wd normal/advanced and Group B normal. The car featured on the front cover of the game was the Citroën Xsara WRC '03 (22BJM 92). The car's livery is from a 1999 Citroën Xsara Kit-Car.
The Xsara World Rally Car, based on the road-going Xsara hatchback but ultimately having very little resemblance to it under the skin, is a major competitor in the World Rally Championship and one of the most successful cars in WRC history. The car took Frenchman Sébastien Loeb to 28 rally wins, three consecutive Driver's Championship titles from 2004 to 2006, and Citroën to three consecutive Manufacturer's Championship titles in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Although it is the Frenchman who has proved the archetype Xsara WRC pilot virtually since its 2001 conception, Carlos Sainz and Francois Duval are among the other drivers to have won. Wikipedia |
