"Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation" is the next game in the Ace Combat franchise. It will be released on October 23, 2007 in Japan, North America, and Europe. A demo of the game is currently available to Xbox Live users.
Xbox Live is heavily supported in the game with 16-player Battle Royale and Team Battle modes (though Namco has stated aims to raise it to 32 players), cooperative play, leaderboards, and downloadable content. The single player campaign features a dynamic mission system that changes the tide of the war based on the performance of the player on past missions.
Gameplay
* Ace Combat 6 takes place in 2015 in the Anean Continent, north of Yuktobania, a country featured in Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War.
* It also features the effects of the Ulysses Asteroid, as seen in Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies.
* The game will have new countries: the prosperous Republic of Emmeria (whose air force players' Garuda Team belongs to), Kingdom of Nordennavic, and the Federal Republic of Estovakia (which had previously suffered from both the Ulysses Asteroid and then a civil war; it's the antagonist nation at the beginning of the game)
* The player's squadron is the 28th Fighter Squadron, 8th Air Wing "Garuda", with the player's call sign being "Talisman".
* The player's wingman is Garuda 2, callsign "Shamrock"
* If the player helps other military forces (such as naval and ground forces) complete their objectives, then the player can call in their support if necessary.
* The superweapons are confirmed to be flying fortresses. The largest of them, called the Aigaion [アイガイオン] aircraft carrier, can launch burst cruise missiles codenamed the Nimbus. It has smaller sister ships of two different designs. One is called the Kottos [コットス], an electronic warfare support platform, and the other is an anti-aircraft gunship codenamed Gyges [ギュゲス]. The Aigaion is reportedly of the same size as the Arkbird shuttle from Ace Combat 5. It is shown to have six KC-10 tankers attached to it.
* A joystick will be available when this game ships. Called the Ace Edge, it consists of separate joystick and throttle components which connect to the Xbox 360 via USB. ( Not confirmed outside North America.)
* As of June 11, 2007, EB Games and GameStop stores in the U.S. will be taking pre-orders for an Ace Combat 6 flight stick bundle. The minimum reserve down payment is US$25, and the full price on release date, in total, is US$149.99. It is unknown when pre-ordering will end.
* The game will be distributed by Atari in Europe.
* As can be heard in the official trailer, there will be a new enemy force known as the Strigon. Officially designated as the 9th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the Estovakian Central Military District Air Force, the Strigon Team has an illustrious history since during Estovakia's civil war and is currently comprised of several Su-33s and a new superfighter. All of them sport a dark brown-black color scheme. A detachment from the squadron is apparently based on board the Aigaion.
* Some special weapons are now available in packages. The XMAA, for example, can be bought in configurations where four (XMA4) or six (XMA6) shots can be fired in one salvo. Wikipedia |
